Yoshirou
吉朗
Little one, are you afraid of me or of Soujoubou?
Overview
A messenger of Inari Ookami whose service is dedicated to delivering messages to Kitsune families. He's seen much of Japan's history. He met his wife just after Japan gained a written language. They settled, had a family, and led a quiet life until the Dutch and Portuguese arrived in the 1500s. These foreigners enjoyed hunting and had no respect for nature or yokai. Yoshirou's wife didn't survive a raid on their den by a Dutch hunting party. After ensuring they were punished, he dedicated himself to raising his son, refusing to marry again. He ascended to being a messenger when he turned 1100.

Serve Inari
Help Kitsune kind survive
Assist Soujoubou in recruiting
Personality
Kind and patient (for not all those he visits understand who he is or that he has no control over the messages he carries)
Brave
Loyal
Practical, almost to a fault
Has little trust in foreigners, and is one of the very few messengers with blood on his conscience
When his patience finally runs out, his actions are severe
Dallying around pretty females, now that his wife has been gone several centuries. Though, he refuses to settle down.
Does not take criticism well
Despite his age, loves to play chase and other fox games like a young kit. It's the one exception to his pragmatism.
Often speaks quietly, because he feels that nets him more attention than being loud
Views
Fatty tuna
Reading ancient literature
Noh plays
Tobacco
The human concept of kitsune tsuki - too many humans have paid dearly for being accused of fox possession, but were not actually being controlled. Kitsune are much more subtle in their puppeteering than humans give them credit for.
Disguising himself as a human
Shinto
Milestones
Schooled in Ancient Chinese and Japanese alongside humans in the Heian Era.
Kith and Kin
Izumi
Kinoshita
Sakura (deceased)

A 9-tailed white, semi-translucent fox with particularly lustrous fur
Two red stripes mark each side of his face
Speaking and reading various Chinese dialects
Reciting waka
Talented calligrapher. His one vanity is that he felt he had to stop entering contests against humans because he could beat them too easily. Now he enters contests that only allow yokai.

Aww, that's so sad about his wife. :( I hope one day he finds happiness again, even if he won't admit it to himself for centuries.
